Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about concrete, stamped finishes, winter care, and what to expect when you hire Crouse Concrete.

Common questions

Will concrete crack?

Yes. Any substantial slab of concrete will crack. That's why we install control joints and grooves — to give the concrete a planned weak point so the cracks happen where you expect them, rather than as jagged lines across the slab. We can't 100% guarantee against a cosmetic crack, but proper prep (stone base, the right mix, reinforcement) prevents separation, widening, or vertical displacement.

What products can I use in winter on my concrete?

No salt products. Salt absolutely devastates the surface of concrete and voids any warranty. It's not actually the salt itself that causes the damage — it's the accelerated freeze/thaw cycle the salt creates. Sand is a great alternative: you get the grip without the surface damage.

What is stamped concrete?

Stamped concrete is a cost-effective alternative to pavers. It's a decorative finish applied to a concrete slab with a base color throughout, which allows for near-limitless combinations of style and color to fit your home and taste.

What about maintenance?

An occasional wash is usually all standard concrete needs. Stamped concrete needs a good sealer to keep it looking sharp. Plan to reseal when it starts to look dull or the colors mellow — generally every 2 to 5 years depending on sun exposure, foot/vehicle traffic, and weather. Neglecting sealing can cause permanent damage.

Why choose stamped concrete over pavers or bricks?

Low maintenance is the biggest reason. Because a stamped slab is solid concrete, there are no weeds growing up through it, it stays cleaner, and there's no paver settling or unevenness when it's installed properly. For most applications it's also the more attractive and more cost-effective option.

How do I decide what color and style will look best?

It comes down to personal preference, but the easiest way is to match the existing color schemes around your home — siding, gutters, downspouts, fences, walls, and any future plans you have. We'll walk you through it and pull from our color chart and past projects to help you visualize the finish.

  3. 3Pour the concrete (and stamp it, if applicable).
  4. 4Seal and finish the work and clean up the site — typically about a week after the pour.
  5. 5Most projects run 7–10 days start to finish, with 3–5 working days on site.
  6. 6Final call-back and walk-through with you, then final payment.
